Frequently Asked Questions

I want a digital copy...

No problem! All our packages come with a USB stick with the film files in digital format. You can duplicate the media as many times as you need and it acts to future proof your files. Although it's possible that you may be able to plug the USB into your high-tech TV, we make no promises as the size of file and USB format may not be supported by all TV brands/models. Should you want disc copies (either DVD or Blu-ray), these can be purchased as extras and include menus, chapters and our Eight Wood Studios cases.

Do you set an 8 or 10 hour time limit for filming the day?

No, when filming we do not charge by the hours we attend, only by the events that take place (within reason, on a traditionally structured wedding day). However, if an early start or late finish is required in a location that is not local to the Cardiff area, an additional charge for accommodation may apply (at cost of course).

For our ceremony-first dance packages, coverage starts an hour before the ceremony and finishes straight after the first dance. For our bridal prep-evening dancing package, we generally start up to three hours before the ceremony (allowing for set-up time pre-ceremony) and finish 30 minutes after the first dance (although it's not unheard of for us to stay a little later when there are dance-offs going on!). Should you wish us to stay later for events such as fireworks, additional hours can be purchased.

We do set a time limit for ceremony lengths as our packages with full ceremony edits cover up to 35 minutes of synced & edited real-time ceremony footage (which still covers the average one hour CofE & Catholic church ceremony when hymns etc. are taken out). If your ceremony is longer than this or you have multiple ceremonies, this will require a bespoke quote as it will take a longer time to edit.

Can we meet you?

We'd love to! We will happily arrange a video chat to discuss what you're after before you book. Getting to know both of you is so vital for what we do and the way that we do it! An additional pre-wedding video chat in the few weeks before the big day is part of every package too.

My venue requires my suppliers to have insurance. Do you have this?

Of course!

We have full public liability insurance and professional indemnity insurance for peace of mind.

How far do you travel?

We cover the UK and abroad and will travel as far as required! Travel up to 45 miles from CF38 is included in package prices, and reasonable travel (& occasionally accommodation) charges apply for further distances, but we won't charge for travelling time.

How do you pick the music?

For our Oakwood & Maplewood packages we ask our couples to provide us with a soundtrack CD/USB/file transfer by 4 weeks before their wedding with song options for their feature film - a mixture of their favourite slow, medium & fast-paced songs, and including any songs featured in their day. Music is a very personal thing and we don't believe in dictating it for you. We ensure we have all the necessary music licenses for putting your music onto your discs. However, sadly this cannot apply to the highlight films we create, as we must use licensed songs that are permitted for online use. That being said, we use our couples' soundtracks and the feel of their day/footage as inspiration to find similar vibe/paced songs to fit the trailer.

How soon do we need to book?

As soon as you decide it's what you want.  We average 10-15 enquiries per month, the majority of which we have to turn down due to duplicate dates or bookings on consecutive days. We take bookings up to 18 months in advance. If you're getting married in a particularly popular month, say between May-September or in December, the sooner the better to avoid missing out!

Do you provide wedding photography as well?

We do! Check out our wedding photography tab on the menu. At this time we don't offer joint Photography/Videography packages but are always happy to provide suggestions to couples who have booked with us.

Do you cover groom preparations?

As a general rule, we do not film groom preparations unless, where requested (within the Maplewood package), both groom & bridal preparations are taking place at the same venue (in the bridal prep-evening dancing timeframe) to ensure that logistical issues don't compromise coverage of bridal preparations or pre-ceremony shots/set-up. In these cases we do not charge extra for footage of the groom's attire being put on. In other circumstances where the groom is not getting ready at the same venue as the bride, this is not something we generally cover.

How do I book?

To book us & reserve the day we require a signed contract and a £300 booking fee (to be deducted from your package cost). The final balance is due by 4 weeks before the wedding date.

What will I receive at the end?

All packages come with an Eight Wood Studios USB stick containing their digital media.

For those who add the Disc option to their package, discs are sent in standard 'Eight Wood' cases, with one of each couples' favourite photos inserted in the front on high-grade matte photo paper. Any or all standard cases can be upgraded to luxury cases for £30 each. We personalise all discs by printing individually designed labels onto them. All discs include bespoke menus, with chapters for the feature films where applicable.
